Committees of the Private Lawyers Forum (PLF)

To effectively deliver on its mandate, the Private Lawyers Forum (PLF) operates through specialized committees that support governance, member engagement, professional development, and access to justice. Each committee is responsible for advancing specific objectives of the Forum in line with its mission, values, and strategic priorities.

Members Affairs Committee

The Members Affairs Committee is responsible for safeguarding the interests, welfare, and engagement of PLF members.

Key Functions:

  • Coordinate membership recruitment, onboarding, and retention
  • Address members’ concerns, grievances, and welfare issues
  • Promote unity, solidarity, and active participation among members
  • Support member welfare initiatives, including professional well-being
  • Advise on policies affecting private legal practitioners

Finance and Administration Committee

The Finance and Administration Committee oversees the financial integrity, administrative efficiency, and institutional sustainability of the Forum.

Key Functions:

  • Provide oversight on budgeting, financial planning, and accountability
  • Supervise financial reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Support resource mobilization and prudent financial management
  • Oversee administrative systems and operational effectiveness
  • Guide the establishment and management of member financial initiatives, including SACCO-related activities

Business Development Committee

The Business Development Committee focuses on strengthening the economic sustainability and growth of private legal practice among PLF members.

Key Functions:

  • Promote law firm development and practice management best practices
  • Support innovation, technology adoption, and modern service delivery
  • Facilitate partnerships, market opportunities, and professional networks
  • Advocate for fair and sustainable legal fee structures
  • Support members in accessing business growth opportunities

Legal Aid Committee

The Legal Aid Committee advances PLF’s commitment to access to justice and public interest service.

Key Functions:

  • Coordinate pro bono legal services among members
  • Support legal aid initiatives targeting indigent and vulnerable persons
  • Promote community legal education and awareness
  • Collaborate with legal aid institutions and justice sector stakeholders
  • Complement national legal aid frameworks and justice sector reforms

Dispute Prevention and Resolution Committee

The Dispute Prevention and Resolution Committee promotes alternative and preventive approaches to resolving disputes within the legal profession and beyond.

Key Functions:

  • Promote dispute prevention mechanisms and best practices
  • Support mediation, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution initiatives
  • Address internal disputes among members where appropriate
  • Engage stakeholders on efficient, non-adversarial dispute resolution methods
  • Support reforms aimed at reducing litigation-related inefficiencies
